Defective locking devices identified on modern 2-post lifts

An HSE Specialist Mechanical Inspector carried out an investigation after a vehicle fell from a 2-post lift when the automatic mechanical locking system (AMLS) failed to engage. Subsequent visits to a sample of Motor Vehicle Repair (MVR) garages revealed other examples of defective AMLS in lifts of the same design supplied by different manufacturers.
