Secretary of State supports launch of HSE ‘Asbestos the Hidden killer’ campaign
Friday, October 24th, 2008Figures issued by the HSE today revealed that every week 20 tradesmen die from asbestos-related diseases, and this number is set to increase.
Secretary of State for Scotland Jim Murphy has given his support to help highlight the importance of the Health and Safety Executive’s Asbestos: The Hidden Killer campaign which is running throughout October and November and aims to reduce the rising death rate by educating today’s tradesmen about the danger that asbestos presents to them.

Report of explosion at Corus UK Ltd in 2001
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008This report concerns the events of 8 November 2001 at the premises of Corus UK Ltd, Port Talbot, South Wales. The explosion of one of the company’s blast furnaces led to the tragic deaths of three employees and injury of a number of other people. The explosion caused widespread alarm and concern throughout the locality.
